MORE THAN A FOUNDATION
The Landon's Legacy Foundation was created after Landon's passing to keep his amazing spirit alive in our community. We build inclusive playgrounds, support families, and champion accessibility.
ABOUT LANDON
Landon Patrick Smith was born on June 5, 1995, with Spina Bifida, a congenital condition caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. While his diagnosis affected the use of his legs, it never defined who he was. Landon was not “different” from any other boy, he was full of joy, determination, humor, and big dreams.
From an early age, Landon showed a spirit far beyond his years. He army-crawled through the house, did headstands, laughed often, and approached life with a contagious sense of optimism. His strength, smile, giggle, and unforgettable “Landonisms” brought light to everyone around him, even through the many medical challenges he faced during his 17 years.
An avid baseball fan, Landon dreamed of hitting a grand slam, rounding the bases, and sliding into home plate for the game-winning run. More than anything, he wanted to be part of a team, play alongside his friends, and experience the joy of the game he loved.
Although Landon passed away on June 3, 2013, his dream continues through the work being done in his memory. Landon’s Legacy strives to leave a tangible footprint in the Billings area by creating opportunities for children and families facing similar challenges. From inclusive playgrounds to the Miracle League, Landon’s spirit lives on in every swing, every slide, every smile, and every child who gets the chance to play.
